Chapter 160

Twenty minutes later, Nathan Blackwood's luxury car screeched to a halt outside Evelyn Carter's penthouse.

His knuckles turned white as he gripped the steering wheel, staring at the glowing windows above. The thought of Julian Montgomery being alone with Evelyn at this hour made his blood boil.

Nathan's phone screen illuminated the dark interior of his car. The photo showed Evelyn draped in a scandalous satin robe that clung to every curve.

Before their divorce, she'd always worn those ridiculous oversized pajamas that could double as potato sacks. Now she was parading around like some high-class escort.

He loosened his tie with a sharp tug, suddenly finding the car's air conditioning inadequate.

Inside the penthouse, Julian Montgomery's face turned ashen as he watched Evelyn devour a bowl of nuclear-level spicy instant noodles.

Raised in the lap of luxury with a mother obsessed with organic everything, Julian had never tasted anything more processed than artisanal pasta. The concept of instant food was as foreign to him as poverty.

"Aren't you going to eat? It's getting cold," Evelyn said between slurps, completely oblivious to his distress.

"I'm... overwhelmed by your hospitality," Julian forced a smile while gripping his fork like a lifeline.

Evelyn shrugged. "It's just noodles. I've got a whole box if you want to take some home."

"No! I mean... that's very kind but—"

Julian steeled himself. This was just another trial in his quest to win Evelyn's heart. He took a massive bite.

The fire hit instantly.

Coughing violently, Julian's eyes watered as the spice seared his throat. Across the table, Theodore Winslow smirked behind his innocent expression.

"Can't handle spice? You should've said something." Evelyn pushed a glass of water toward him just as the doorbell chimed.

"Another visitor? I'll get it." Theodore moved to the security screen and froze when Nathan's furious face appeared.

"I need to speak with Evelyn."

"Who is it?" Evelyn called out, leading a still-sputtering Julian toward the entrance.

Both froze when they saw the video feed.

"What's he doing here? Did you tell him?" Evelyn whirled on Julian accusingly.

Julian raised his hands in surrender, tears still streaming from the spice. "He threatened me! Said he'd delay your divorce indefinitely if I didn't give him your address!"

Evelyn's fists clenched. "What else?"

"That he'd make sure neither Sebastian nor I could see you again." Julian rubbed his burning throat. "The man's a demon."

Evelyn stormed to the intercom, shoving Theodore behind her protectively. "You have no right to be here! Leave now or I'm calling security!"

"Evelyn, come outside." Nathan's voice crackled through the speaker, tight with barely restrained anger.

She laughed bitterly. "Since when do I take orders from you?"

"Julian! Get out here now!" Nathan roared, his usually composed voice raw with fury.

Julian paled. "Not a chance!" He knew exactly what Nathan was capable of in this state.

"Julian Montgomery!"

"Julian is my guest," Evelyn cut in coldly. "He brought me a gift, which I accepted. You, Mr. Blackwood, are trespassing. Kindly remove yourself from my property."

Nathan's response was cut off as Evelyn slammed her palm against the intercom's power button, silencing him mid-sentence.
