Chapter 419
Nathan lashed out at Evelyn as if she had murdered his beloved grandmother.
Theodore's face flushed crimson, but Evelyn remained unfazed. She merely arched a brow and smirked. "Tsk. Fascinating."
"What did you just say?" Nathan snapped, his composure crumbling.
"I said Vivian Prescott is fascinating," Evelyn clarified, reaching for another piece of chocolate.
Theodore suppressed a fond smile as he noted the dwindling supply of sweets.
"You've known Vivian for barely two months, yet she's already got you dancing to her tune," Evelyn mused. "Willing to throw away your career, defy the elite—all for her sake."
She tilted her head, amused. "I ought to take notes from Ms. Prescott."
"Don't you dare insult Vivian!" Nathan exploded. "You're the one who thinks money makes you untouchable! If it weren't for you, Vivian would still have her family's support! You destroyed her!"
His voice cracked with rage. "People like you—wealthy, entitled—you're the poison in this world!"
Theodore frowned. Why was Evelyn indulging this delusional fool when she could simply hand him over to the authorities?
"By all means, vent your grievances," Evelyn said coolly. "I won't stop you. My father endured worse—slander, even assassination attempts—yet he thrived. Power and wealth have their perks."
Her gaze turned glacial. "But you crossed a line by sabotaging my family's business. Did you really think I wouldn't retaliate?"
A slow, dangerous smile curved her lips. "I reward loyalty. But those who betray me? They don't fare well."
Nathan shuddered, a cold dread creeping up his spine.
Evelyn's presence alone was suffocating.
"Since you're so desperate for answers, I'll enlighten you," she continued.
"Vivian never loved you. She used you because you worked for Monarch Group."
"Lies!" Nathan howled, his voice raw. "Stop twisting the truth! I helped Vivian get justice! She wouldn't—she couldn't—"
Evelyn ignored his outburst and nodded at Theodore. "Turn on the screen."
The television flickered to life, revealing explicit images—Vivian entangled with Timothy Windsor, the director of Spotlight News.
Theodore's jaw dropped.
He had investigated Vivian, but this? This wasn't in his report.
"No! It's fake!" Nathan clawed at his hair, his eyes wild. "Those photos are doctored! That's not her!"
His heart shattered as he stared at Vivian's coy smile, her arms draped around the older man. There was no coercion—only betrayal.
Evelyn remained impassive. "The evidence speaks for itself."
Theodore gagged and averted his gaze.
"They've been meeting like this for over a year," Evelyn added. "Would you like to see the videos?"
"No!" Nathan collapsed to his knees, his anguished sobs echoing through the room.
Theodore leaned in, whispering, "Where did you get these, Ms. Carter?"
Evelyn's expression didn't waver. "Later."
"Why... why would she do this to me?" Nathan choked out between tears.
"She used the information you gave her for revenge—and for personal gain," Theodore muttered, eyeing Nathan with pity.
"Personal gain?"
"You were a pawn, Nathan. Someone else paid her to manipulate you."
