Chapter 484
Penelope stirred the pot viciously, twisting facts about Evelyn. She deliberately concealed that Evelyn was Harrison Kingsley's daughter from the beginning.
She gained your trust just to marry Nathan. Think about it. That was her scheme all along. We're fortunate Nathan saw through her and divorced her before any real damage occurred.
If Evelyn had secured Nathan's affection and your confidence, she would've seized control of Blackwood Industries by now.
"Enough!" Reginald waved his arm impatiently. "Evelyn isn't that kind of woman."
He continued firmly, "Besides, I know Harrison. He might be a playboy, but he's a principled gentleman. I refuse to believe he'd raise a dishonorable daughter."
"Father!"
"Grandfather!"
Reginald added pointedly, "The Kingsleys possess wealth and influence comparable to ours. Ms. Kingsley wouldn't throw away her marriage for some company shares."
He scoffed, "That's the sort of tasteless behavior I'd expect from Victoria Sterling, but Ms. Kingsley? She has everything. She wouldn't stoop so low."
Penelope's face twisted in fury, her fingers itching to overturn the old man's wheelchair.
Gregory interjected coldly, "Regardless, Ms. Kingsley has shown hostility toward Blackwood Industries."
Though aware his daughter was the instigator, Gregory wouldn't admit his parenting failures to Reginald.
Defiantly, he stated, "Even with our internal disputes, Evelyn has no right to interfere. She's leveraged her family's power against us repeatedly - first targeting Penelope, now trying to imprison Cassandra over trivial matters."
"She's clearly declaring war. Since returning to her family, Ms. Kingsley has changed. She'll prioritize her family's interests over her relationship with you."
Reginald's grip tightened on his wheelchair arms as he breathed heavily.
"Marcus, summon Evelyn immediately. I want to hear her explanation myself."
Meanwhile, Nathan's car pulled up at Cliffside Manor's driveway. Oliver opened the door promptly.
As Nathan stepped out indifferently, a sleek Maserati parked beside him.
Lawrence Pembroke emerged, impeccably dressed in a tailored suit.
"What a coincidence, Mr. Blackwood."
Nathan smirked coldly. "Chairman Blackwood must've gotten himself into serious trouble to require your services at this hour, Mr. Pembroke. Cleaning up his messes again?"
Lawrence maintained his composure. "Chairman Blackwood retained me as Ms. Cassandra's defense attorney. I take my professional responsibilities seriously."
He added pointedly, "But I suppose legal ethics aren't your expertise, Mr. Blackwood. Understandable, given our different professions."
Nathan's eyes narrowed dangerously as he advanced on Lawrence.
The lawyer instinctively retreated, immediately regretting the show of weakness.
"The legal field has its shadows," Nathan said icily. "While some lawyers champion the underprivileged, others like you serve corporate interests without scruples."
Lawrence's smile stiffened.
"I won't interfere with your ambitions," Nathan continued, his piercing gaze making Lawrence shudder. "But heed this warning - you may play your ruthless games, but Evelyn Kingsley is off-limits."
His voice dropped to a lethal whisper. "She's important to me. Harm her, and I'll return the favor tenfold."
