Chapter 389
Sebastian swirled his wine glass with an amused smirk. "Looks like our nuisance caller decided to show up in person."
With both Sebastian and Dominic present, Nathan Blackwood wouldn't dare cause trouble.
One wrong move from him, and Sebastian would make sure not even divine intervention could save him.
"That bastard actually came to our doorstep?" Dominic snarled, fingers flying across his keyboard. "That fucking piece of trash!"
Evelyn sighed and rose abruptly. "This is my mess to clean up. I'll handle it."
She marched to the entrance alone and activated the video intercom. Nathan's chiseled features appeared on screen, his expression unreadable.
"What do you want?"
Her voice was glacial, as if addressing a complete stranger. "Did Crestview run out of tourist attractions that you had to loiter outside my home?"
"Evelyn." His baritone voice carried an unfamiliar urgency. "Come out. We need to talk."
"Why can't we talk like this? I can see and hear you perfectly fine."
Nathan exhaled sharply, his Adam's apple bobbing. The woman before him had truly become ice personified.
"Stop being difficult. I have something important to tell you."
"Difficult?" A bitter laugh escaped her lips. "You're the one trespassing on private property."
"Just come outside. I need to see you."
Moonlight caught in his haunted eyes, revealing emotions he could no longer suppress. All pretense of pride had crumbled.
"I need to see you."
Evelyn's pulse spiked violently. She took an involuntary step back, gripping the doorframe.
After a steadying breath, she forced out a hollow chuckle.
Had he uttered those words years ago, she would've wept with joy. She'd have moved mountains for that simple admission.
But now? It was pathetic. Clinging to expired vows only diminished her self-worth.
"Nathan, the world doesn't revolve around your whims." Her voice dripped with disdain. "You spent three years teaching me that lesson."
"Nathan—" His voice cracked, every muscle taut with tension.
"Doesn't look like rain tonight." Evelyn tilted her face toward the moon. "Last time I went out, I feared lightning might strike you dead. This time? You're not worth the risk."
The screen went black.
Nathan stood frozen in the autumn chill, the cold seeping into his bones.
Evelyn trudged upstairs, her steps leaden.
How dare he? After years of neglect, after the divorce, he had the audacity to demand her attention? What more was there to say? Three years of silence couldn't be undone with one midnight visit.
She'd wasted enough time on that man. Never again.
Theodore looked up anxiously as she reentered the study. "Are you alright, Ms. Evelyn? Did he—"
"Please." She scoffed, moving behind Sebastian to wrap her arms around his shoulders. "He wouldn't dare."
Sebastian patted her hand. "Tell me you at least made him suffer."
"Not my style."
"Pity." His lips quirked. "With me here tonight, you could've exacted proper revenge."
Evelyn rolled her eyes. "Such violence, Bash. I prefer resolving conflicts peacefully."
"Evie!" Dominic suddenly whooped, punching the air. "Got her! Break out the good wine—the '98 Lafite!"
"Theo," Evelyn called, her mood lifting instantly. "Fetch my idiot brother that bottle from the cellar."
She hurried to Dominic's side, leaning over his shoulder. "Who's behind the account?"
Dominic jabbed the screen triumphantly. "Vivian Prescott from Spotlight News! The IP matches her official work address exactly..."
