Chapter 467
Isabelle Montgomery sneered at Julian, "Even if you grovel at Evelyn's feet, she'll never look at you twice. You'll never have her."
"Isabelle Montgomery!"
Julian's sharp tone made her shrink into their mother's embrace.
"Even if Evelyn doesn't become your sister-in-law, that doesn't give you the right to hurt or insult her. I know her character. She's no saint, but she wouldn't harm anyone unless provoked—which means you must have started it."
Isabelle's face twisted in fury.
"One more thing—get over Nathan. Anyone with eyes can see Evelyn is the only woman for him." Julian scoffed, his tone laced with dry amusement.
Being Nathan's closest friend, Julian had perfected the art of mocking him subtly.
Isabelle's cheeks burned crimson.
"You're coming with me to see Evelyn tomorrow. You will apologize to her."
With that, Julian turned and walked away.
"Are you insane? Why should I apologize to her? I won't!" Isabelle shrieked, her voice cracking.
"Then I'll have you on a flight to Valmont tonight. And you won't step foot in Crestview again without my permission."
The steel in his voice sent a chill down Mrs. Montgomery's spine.
She had heard rumors about her son's ruthlessness, but he had never been this harsh with his only sister.
Was Evelyn Carter—Nathan Blackwood's ex-wife—really worth this?
"Julian! Come back, Julian!"
Isabelle's desperate sobs echoed through the hallway, but Julian, who had always doted on her, didn't even glance back.
That night, Julian drowned his sorrows at Velvet Lounge, his private sanctuary.
The memory of Evelyn's cold dismissal of Isabelle gnawed at him. The whiskey burned his throat, but it did nothing to dull the ache.
The door creaked open.
"Damn it, I said no company! Get out!"
Irritated, Julian hurled his glass against the wall, shattering it.
"Mr. Montgomery, Mr. Blackwood is here to see you."
Natalia offered an awkward smile before stepping aside.
"My apologies, Mr. Blackwood. He's... not himself tonight."
Nathan's expression remained unreadable. "I'm used to it."
"Right this way."
Nathan strode in, and Natalia quietly shut the door behind him.
"What's wrong with you now?"
Nathan arched a brow as he took the seat beside Julian. "So Evelyn rejected you. Must you act like the world ended?"
"Fuck off. Are you going to mock me forever?" Julian grabbed the bottle and took a long swig.
"Rejected?" Nathan smirked, pulling out a cigarette. "She never accepted you in the first place. How could she reject you? You were always the backup—never the first choice."
Julian scoffed. "At least I'm still in the running. You're out of the race."
Then it hit him—Isabelle had called Evelyn a slut.
His grip tightened around the bottle.
If she weren't his sister, he would have broken more than just glass.
