Chapter 345

Betsy stepped out of the restroom just in time to witness the entire scene.

Her lip curled. Nolan was nothing short of a sleaze.

Lillian had already whispered to her that Nolan was getting engaged to Elora.

Before Eleanor could even confront him,Nolan had the audacity to show up and invite her to his own engagement party with Elora.

It wasn't just shameless-it was bullying.

But Eleanor, cool as ever, didn't flinch. She agreed without so much as a ripple in her expression.

Later that night, Ryland rolled in with his sleek sports car, face glowing with excitement.

He jogged up quickly, reaching for Betsy's bag. "Betsy, you must be tired. Let me take you home."

She walked right past him, her face like ice.

Ryland froze, stunned. Betsy could be sharp with him, but she had never completely ignored him before.

Flustered, he rushed ahead and blocked her path, his handsome face full of hurt. "At least tell me what I did wrong!"

She halted, fixing him with a cold stare. "Nolan's no good, and neither are you."

Ryland blinked, baffled and wounded. "That's not true!Nolan's a decent guy. He's getting engaged to your boss tomorrow! I even came to pick you up and invite you to the party."

Betsy stiffened, her eyes widening in shock. "What?"

Had Eleanor and Lillian gotten it wrong?

Ryland spoke earnestly. "I swear on my life, it's real."

Betsy faltered, doubt tugging at her anger.

Could Nolan be planning some grand surprise for Eleanor and keeping it a secret?

Her frosty expression eased slightly. "Fine. I'll believe you-for now."

Ryland's grin returned in a flash. He leaned in hopefully.′′SO,shall we go?" Betsy only gave him a sidelong glance, then slid into his car without a word.

The next morning, Elepdon's crown jewel, the Grand Sterling Hotel, was a sight to behold.

The engagement setup was beyond lavish.

Flowers trailed from the grand entrance all the way to the ballroom. Hundreds of drones hovered, ready to paint the sky with light.

Every major media outlet in the city had gathered.

At the entrance, Nolan stood tall in a bespoke suit, a bouquet of lilies in hand, his eyes alight with anticipation.

The morning sun cast a golden glow over him, making his presence all the more striking.

Everything was set, waiting only for Eleanor.

He pulled out his phone, fingers moving quickly.

"On your way?"

Her reply came almost at once. "Just leaving now."

Setting the phone aside,Eleanor told her driver calmly,"Let's go." Yet beneath her composed surface, her heart twisted in a knot of emotions.

Before they reached the hotel, her phone buzzed again.

It was Denny.

He had gone with her parents to a nearby conference.

The moment Eleanor answered, a frantic voice filled her ear.

"Ms. Warren! Something terrible happened-your parents were in a car accident! They're at Elepdon Hospital!"

The world spun. Eleanor's fingers trembled around the phone. "Turn the car around-now! Head straight to Elepdon Hospital!"

Without hesitation, the driver swung the car atthe next light, speeding toward the hospital.
