Chapter 389
Ryland tugged Lillian along as they walked out.
Fannie stood frozen at the side, utterly baffled.
Elora kept her face composed, though inside, she let out a quiet sigh of relief.
The moment they stepped into the hallway,Lillian yanked her hand free with force.
Her voice rose, sharp with anger. "Why did you drag me out? If I had pressed a little harder, Elora might have cracked!"
Before Ryland could answer, a cool voice drifted from behind.
"If she were that easy to corner, her mask wouldn't have lasted this long."
Both of them spun around at once.
Nolan stood there,his face unreadable.
After he left the Benton family's villa, unease had driven him to the hospital-and here he was, running right into Ryland and Lillian. He stepped closer, speaking evenly."We don't have proof. Pushing her won't get us anywhere."
At the sight of him, Lillian bristled. Thoughts of Eleanor's suffering soured her mood; she had no wish to talk to Nolan.
Yet, she couldn't deny his words rang true. Elora wasn't someone who would break that easily.
With a frown, she snapped, "Then what's your idea?Got a better plan?"
Nolan's gaze darkened.
On his way over,he had already weighed it carefully
"Not long ago,Elora was violated by her ex-boyfriend,"he said quietly.
Ryland caught on instantly.
He knew Nolan too well.
Nolan's loyaltyto Eleanor was absolute; he had never touched Elora and never would.
Lillian also understood at once.
If they could track down Elora's ex-boyfriend, they could prove the child she carried wasn't Nolan's.
Once that came to light, all her lies would collapse. Ryland straightened. "Leave it to us.
If Nolan stepped in personally, it would only stir trouble and alert Elora.
But with them handling it in secret, it would be easier to dig up the truth.
Nolan hesitated for a moment, then agreed.
Wasting no time, Ryland and Lillian began to map out their plan.
Lillian, always quick to act, pulled out her phone and fired off a message to Eleanor. "Ryland and I need to be away for a few days. Wait for me to come back!"
Eleanor, unaware of the real reason, assumed it was urgent Brooks family business. She quickly typed back,"Alright, take care."
After sending the message, she looked out the window.Dusk was already creeping in. She packed her things, ready to head home.
Just as she stood, her phone rang.
It was David calling
"Hey, Eleanor, are you busy?" he asked.
"Yes," Eleanor replied. "I'm at an academic conference abroad and can't slip away. An old friend of mine from Vladena just arrived in Elepdon for recuperation. Could you visit her when you have time? I'll text you the address," he said.
Eleanor agreed without hesitation.
It was his request-how could she refuse?
With business done, David's tone shifted into playful mischief. "By the way, I met a promising young man here. Bright, accomplished... I thought of you right away."
Eleanor's head throbbed instantly. She cut him off without pause. "David, I'm busy at the store. I'll hang up now."
With that,she ended the call.
On the other end, David exhaled heavily, muttering in frustration.
It seemed Eleanor had no romantic strings in her heart at all.
He had hoped she would marry soon,so he could pass his life's work down to her child.
