Chapter 433
By noon, the shareholders had trickled in one after another.
Colson walked in with Brodie at his side, arriving right on the dot. Both looked pleased with themselves as they stepped into the conference room.
His eyes swept across the faces in the room before settling on Nolan, seated calmly at the head of the table.
Colson smirked inwardly. To him, Nolan was only putting on a brave face. He was curious to see how long that mask would last.
With that thought, he dragged out a chair and sat down. He couldn't wait even a heartbeat before blurting out, "Nolan, the three-day deadline is up. Our system is still down. Isn't it about time you honored our deal?"
Brodie straightened in his seat, quick to add fuel."That's right! Nolan, a man keeps his word!"
Several of the senior shareholders loyal to Nolan frowned at their pushy behavior. "What's the hurry? Let Nolan speak first," one of them finally cut in.
After all, it was only noon.
Their desperate rush for power left a sour taste in many minds around the table.
At last, Nolan stirred. He raised his eyes slowly, a mocking gleam flickering there as he looked straight at Colson. "Why so anxious? Afraid the others won't find out you were behind this mess?"
Colson's chest tightened.
How could he know?
No...
He was bluffing. He had to be bluffing!
Shaking off his panic, Colson quickly replied, "Don't throw dirt on my name! I've only ever acted in the company's best interest. Why would I sabotage it?Without proof, your words mean nothing!"
But Brodie wasn't so cautious.
Thinking Nolan had reached his end, he declared boldly, "Yes, we did it! So what? You're still stepping down as CEO!"
That was exactly what Nolan had been waiting for. He leaned back in his chair, a faint, amused smile tugging at his lips. "Oh really? Then watch carefully.Let's see if I have solved it."
He shot Erick a knowing glance.
Erick understood at once.
The giant screen at the center of the room flickered to life.
In seconds, the company's internal system filled the screen, fully restored, every bit of data back in place.
Gasps and murmurs rippled through the room.
Colson leapt to his feet, eyes wide, shouting, "No!Impossible! The system was destroyed by Ghost, the top hacker in the world!"
Nolan rose, moving toward him step by step, his voice sharp with scorn. "Out of greed, you joined hands with outsiders and tried to wreck this company. What excuse do you have now?"
Colson instinctively stumbled backward, his lips trembling, unable to speak.
The plan had been airtight.
Ghost was unbeatable.
Who in the world could have outdone him? As he watched his father falter, Brodie's anger flared.
He stepped forward to shield Colson, snapping,"Dad,don't fear him! We own thirty percent of the shares. With the others on our side, we'll have more than half the votes. Who cares if he fixed the system? We can still push him out!"
But before his words had even cooled in the air, the shareholders who once sided with them rose to their feet.
Their faces showed nothing but disgust and disappointment.
"Shameful!" one barked.
"You were willing to sabotage the company just to grab power? With people like you in charge, Stewart Group would be ruined in no time!" another declared.
"We're shareholders, not pawns in your schemes!"someone else added sharply.
"That's right! We'll only stand with whoever can lead the firm to real success!" others echoed.
No one would tolerate leaders who trampled on the company's survival for their own gain.
As long as their own profits stayed safe, they could look away. But once their interests were put at risk, that was crossing the line.
One after another, the shareholders voiced their outrage, then turned their backs and filed out of the conference room.
