Chapter 387

Jeff stormed outside, only to be greeted by the sight of Nolan kneeling upright at the entrance.

His rage boiled over. With a swift kick, he struck Nolan hard.

Nolan's body rocked but didn't topple. He quickly straightened himself again.

Jeff,still seething,delivered another kick.

Yet Nolan, stubborn as iron, rose back into place without a word.

When Hilda rushed out, she was met with this almost absurd sight.

She clutched Jeff's arm in alarm. "Jeff, stop it!"

Jeff hadn't expected Nolan to be so unyielding. After just two kicks, it was his own foot that throbbed in pain.

He jabbed a finger at Nolan's face, roaring, "Get lost this instant! Don't ever appear before us again!"

Nolan lifted his head, his eyes desperate. "Jeff, Hilda, it's all my fault. I only beg to see Eleanor-to explain everything to her in person."

Hilda's anger was visible.

What use was an explanation now?

Could words undo the wounds Eleanor had suffered,or erase the slander already running wild online?

Her expression hardened. "Mr. Stewart, Eleanor will not see you. Please go back."

But Nolan stayed kneeling, unmoving, as if he hadn't heard a word.

Jeff's fury surged agan at his obstinacy.

Since Maverick had already left, Jeff decided to strike where it hurt, fabricating a lie to shatter Nolan's persistence.

With a sneer, he raised his voice deliberately. "I've already agreed to Maverick's proposal on Eleanor's behalf. She will soon marry him. You might as well give up."

Nolan's face drained of color. Panic seized him."Please-just give me a little more time. I already have people investigating the truth!"

As he saw his reaction, Jeff's anger cooled a little, and his reason returned. But even if Nolan uncovered something, what difference would it make now?

Jeff's lip curled in disdain. "Can you even cut ties with Elora? | doubt it."

Hilda let out a weary sigh and tried to reason with him."Kneeling here won't change anything. Eleanor isn't home."

She glanced at the sky, where dark clouds gathered, heavy with rain.

"Instead of wasting away on the ground, why not do something meaningful?" she added.

The last flicker of light faded from Nolan's eyes.

He knew they were right.

Without another word, he pushed himself up,staggering as he turned to leave.

The moment he was gone, Jeff grabbed at his leg with a groan.

Was Nolan made of steel?

The thought flashed bitterly through Jeff's mnind. His kicks hadn't harmned Nolan in the slightest, yet his old injury had flared up again.

Hilda helped Jeff back into the house. Not far away, a Rolls-Royce sat quietly under the shade of a tree.

The driver lowered his voice. "Mr. Cohen, shall we return now?"

Maverick, who had witnessed everything, let a slow smile curve his lips.

He was certain the Benton family would accept his proposal. It was time to go home and prepare his family for the wedding.

Earlier,Maverick had intended to leave after stepping out of the villa.

But just as he got into his car, he spotted Nolan's vehicle approaching.

Curiosity made him change his mind. He ordered his driver to park in a hidden corner, choosing instead to quietly observe.

And now, Jeff's words had turned into an unexpected gift.
