Chapter 391

Vickie stormed out of the hospital room, seething with anger.

Norah was such a pain in the ass.

She had swallowed her pride to come and serve, yet she was treated with no respect whatsoever.

If not for the Shaw family's vast fortune, she wouldn't have wasted a single effort trying to please Norah.

She had always believed that, with her smarts, she would quickly win over the Shaws.

Once that happened, marrying Donald would be smooth sailing.

But who would have guessed that Eleanor happened to know Norah?

That woman was like a shadow that refused to disappear.

If Eleanor said even a word against her, everything she had been working for would crumble.

The more she thought about it, the more her fury boiled over.

She muttered curses under her breath, too distracted to notice someone coming down the hallway until she collided with a solid chest.

Ready to lash out, she raised her head, only to see who it was. Her attitude flipped immediately, and tears filled her eyes. "Donald, what are you doing here?"she said softly, as if hurt.

Donald had actually come to visit Norah, but seeing Vickie standing there crying caught him off guard.

His chest tightened, and he quickly reached out to steady her. "Vickie, what happened? Did someone upset you?" he asked with worry.

Vickie sniffled, looking pitiful as she leaned against him.

She pointed weakly toward the hospital room. "I'm fine. I'm just worried about your mother. My son's ex -wife somehow slipped in. She has no manners, no proper upbringing, and she always talked back to me before. Now she claims she's here to treat your mother... but I'm afraid she's just pretending. What if she hurts her instead?"

Donald didn't doubt her for a second.

In his eyes, she was kind, gentle, and incapable of lying. Her words instantly set him on edge. Norah's health meant everything. He couldn't let just anyone interfere.

Holding Vickie's hand tightly, he said firmly. "Let's go inside and see what's happening

Inside the room, Eleanor had just finished removing the last silver needle.

Norah let out a breath, her body feeling lighter than it had in months. For the first time in ages, thepain that had weighed on her seemed to ease.

But before the moment could settle, the door burst open.

Donald rushed in, looking furious, with Vickie right behind him, dabbing fake tears from her eyes.

The moment Donald saw Eleanor standing by Norah's bed,his face turned dark.

With Vickie's words already planted in his mind,he simply jumped to the worst conclusion.

"What do you think you're doing to my mother?" he barked at Eleanor.

Norah, who had just begun to feel relief after Eleanor's treatment, nearly lost her temper on the spot. She slammed her cane against the floor and shouted,"Idiot! Who do you think you're yelling at?"

Eleanor felt a headache rising.

This was exactly the kind of drama she wanted nothing to do with.

Remaining calm, she packed away her acupuncture kit, then gave Norah a polite nod. "Mrs. Shaw,I'll come by at the same time tomorrow."

Without sparing a glance at Donald or Vickie, she walked straight out of the room.

As the door shut behind her, Norah's expression turned grave. Her gaze swept over Donald, cold and cutting.

Her son was good at everything, except when it came to women. He was crazy about someone like Vickie.

"Has this woman filled your head with nonsense?"Norah snapped.

Donald's brows furrowed as he rushed to defend Vickie. "Mom, how can you say that? Vickie was only worried about you."

Vickie stood silently at his side, her face soft and pitiful, her voice gentle as she chimed in, "Mrs. Shaw, please don't be angry. Donald just cares about you." But inside, her stomach knotted with unease. Had Eleanor already spoken badly about her to Norah?

Norah's anger only flared higher at her son's blind loyalty.

She pointed at the door, her voice like ice. "Get out! Both of you!"

Donald's cheeks burned with shame, but he had no choice.Supporting Vickie,he left the ward with her.

In the hallway, his heart ached at the sight of her tearful eyes.

He rested a hand on her shoulder and spoke softly."Vickie, I'm sorry. You shouldn't have to deal with that.Mom can be harsh sometimes."

Vickie shook her head, playing the part of the selfless woman. "It doesn't matter. As long as your mother's health improves, nothing else matters."

Then, as if in passing, she added, "I actually know a really good doctor. Maybe we can ask him to come tomorrow to check on her. I'd like to help however l can."

Of course, her tue intention was to edge Eleanor out.If that woman kept getting close to Norah, all of her carefully laid plans for her future couldfall apart. Donald, however, saw none of this. To him, she seemed caring and thoughtful, just as she had always been.

He felt touched by her kindness and nodded at once."Alright, let's do that."
