Chapter 21

When Amelia pressed the power button of her phone, the screen stubbornly remained black, no matter how many attempts she made.

All her data and contacts were on it, and a call from the ward could come at any minute.

Thinking about this, she fixed Dayna with a cold glare.

Dayna had just smashed Amelia's phone in a fit of anger, and now, faced with Amelia's icy stare, her face turned pale with fear.

Meanwhile, Janessa kept ordering the staff to move faster. Once everything Amelia owned was set back in place, she made her way over to Amelia.

With Ricky already on his way to the hospital, Janessa dropped her usual act. "Amelia, I've done what you wanted. Now let go of Dayna!"

A scream from Dayna was the only response Janessa received.

Dayna's last stunt involved a dramatic fall down the staircase, injuring her hand. Amelia's move this time made the injury sting all over again.

Though anger flickered across Janessa's face, seeing what was happening made her force herself to calm down.

Knowing Dayna had broken Amelia's phone, Janessa offered compensation, leading Amelia to release Dayna, who cried that her hand was broken, asking Janessa to take her to the hospital.

Amelia only made a brief visit home. Yet, almost the entire Flynn family was bound for the hospital because of her. Now, no one among the staff would dare show her disrespect.

Amelia scanned her room with a cool expression, locked the door after she stepped out, and carried a wooden box as she left. Settling into the car, she opened the box.

Inside were various high-end jewelry pieces, gifts she'd received from childhood, mostly bought by Katrina.

Amelia intended to sell these items and use the money to repay Wyatt.

After all, he had shouldered her grandmother's hospital bills. She believed she needed to repay him for that.

After closing the boox, Amelía started the car.

By the time she arrived home, the hour had crept well past midnight. She took out her keys, balancing the box against her hip, and fumbled to unlock the door.

Suddenly, footsteps pounded through the quiet hallway, their urgency slicing through the night air.

She quickly turned the key, feeling the footsteps closing in. The smell of liquor drifted toward her.

Without thinking, she kicked backward, landing a strike asa familiar yelp echoed behind her.

She then turned and saw Carlee sprawled on the floor.

Dropping her bag, Amelia let the box fall and rushed to help Carlee into her home, reaching out as she said,"What are you doing here? You could have said something."

Carlee grumbled, "I sent that photo to you, but you never replied to me, and I couldn't reach you. I got worried and hurried over without even finishing my drink. Is this how you welcome your friends? That kick hurt, you know!"

"Are you alright? Do you want me to take you to the hospital?" Concern laced Amelia's voice as she looked at Carlee.

Carlee quickly said, "I'm not setting foot in any hospital!"

Amelia let out a sigh, meeting her defiance with gentle persistence."It's just a regular check-up. They might not even need to give you an injection or anything. They will just examine you-"

"No way, I'm not going!" said Carlee, her voice sharp. For all her efforts, Amelia could not get Carlee to budge. Carlee had a strong aversion to needles, which made her particularly resistant to hospital visits.

Realizing she was fighting a losing battle, Amelia dropped the subject. "Dayna smashed my phone earlier.Could I borrow yours so I can reach Monroe?"

Without so much as a pause, Carlee handed the device over. While Amelia took it, Carlee muttered,"What's wrong with Dayna? Did she lose her mind smashing your phone?"

The call went through, and a rough, slightly groggy voice sounded from the other end of the line."Why are you calling me at this hour? Are you drunk?"

"It's Amelia. I need to talk to you," Amelia said.

Suddenly, the tone on the other end brightened, and the excitement was unmistakable."Waiyou're calling from Carlee's number? | figured she was out cold by now."

Monroe Smith was one of Amelia's rare trusted friends, just like Carlee.

Monroe was a guy. After her engagement to Jaxton, Amelia had limited their contact to avoid displeasing the Morrison family.

Still, it didn't affect their friendship.

Once the initial greetings were over, Amelia moved to the heart of her call.

She reached out to Monroe for a reason. He worked in luxury resales, and her jewelry collection was far too valuable to pass off to strangers. She wanted him to help sell them.

Carlee, who had been listening nearby, suddenly spoke up. "You should've told me you needed cash! I've got over ten million, and if you need more, my dad will help."

"Same goes for me, Amelia. I can transfer you a few million right now if you need iit,"Monroe said.

A soft smile flickered across Amelia's lips as she gently refused their help. With a little pressing from the two,she finally revealed the matter about her grandmother's hospital bills. Hearing the truth, Monroe went silent. A moment passed. Then, he agreed to help sell her jewelry pieces and arranged to meet her the next day to take them.

Amelia didn't mention Wyatt's involvement to Monroe, and Carlee chose not to bring it up, either. After the call ended, Carlee couldn't help but say to Amelia, "With your marriage to Wyatt coming up soon, it's normal for him to cover your grandmother's medical bills."

"Regardless of what he thinks, this is money I have to pay back," said Amelia, her tone firm.

After a pause, she added, "Carlee, I want to start working now."

Carlee saw how determined Amelia looked, and worry crept into her voice. "Do you really think the Morrisons will be okay with that?"
