Chapter 98
The thought of spending another whole day in a hospital room grated on Amelia. She insisted on leaving that night, but Wyatt's concern kept her there for a little longer. They compromised, agreeing she would stay under observation until morning
By sunrise, she was already urging Wyatt to head back to his company. Though hesitant to leave her side, he finally gave in when Davin called, mentioning an urgent meeting that required his presence.
Just before he stepped out, Wyatt promised Amelia he'd be back as soon as the meeting ended.
As soon as he was gone, Amelia reached for her phone and started going through her work messages. The peace shattered when raised voices filtered in from the corridor, signaling an argument outside her door.
Wyatt had specifically assigned two bodyguards to make sure Amelia had complete privacy during her recovery.
Curiosity got the better of Amelia, and she made her way to the door. "Barrie, this isn't my decision. Mr. Conroy Stewart himself ordered it. Even Mr. Wyatt Stewart couldn't countermand his wishes."
Barrie Welch was the leader of Wyatt's security detail. The man challenging him was Doug Lyons, Conroy Stewart's long-serving steward.
Although Doug's status carried weight, Barrie's resolve was unwavering."Mr. Wyatt Stewart is the only person I answer to. Without his go-ahead, no one's taking Mrs. Stewart anywhere."
Doug's eyes narrowed with disapproval, yet he didn't argue. Instead, he signaled to the guards who'd come with him.
With Doug's men stepping forward, Barrie shifted his weight, ready to fight.
Tension mounted, only to be broken by Amelia's clear command from inside. "Stop!"
"Mrs.Stewart?"
At the sound of Amelia's voice, Barrie and his men straightened and offered her a respectful greeting, while Doug studied her carefully.
Doug took a moment, then delivered his message to Amelia. "Mr. Conroy Stewart has requested your presence. Please come with us to Stewart Mansion."
"Of course. I'll just get changed and join you."
Doug's eyebrows shot up, taken aback by her willingness to go. He had expected her to refuse.
Barrie, meanwhile, looked worried. "Mrs. Stewart, MMr.Wyatt Stewart said you were not to leave our protection. Are you sure-"
"It's alright. I trust Mr. Lyons and his men will keep me safe," Amelia said.
She then glanced at Doug, her expression seeming to say, "Isn't that right?"
Seeing her confident demeanor, Doug suddenly understood why Wyatt chose to marry Amelia.
He nodded and said, "Of course."
Their visit was all about escorting her to Stewart Mansion, not harming her. No one in the Steward household dared to hurt someone Wyatt cared about.
Once she finished changing, Amelia allowed Doug and his men to escort her to Stewart Mansion. As she walked away, Barrie wasted no time calling Wyatt with the news. Stewart Mansion.
Amelia always knew the Stewart family carried a legacy of power and wealth, but the grand estate towering before her exceeded all expectations. The place seemed almost like a castle pulled from a storybook.
Even though nerves stirred beneath the surface,Amelia carried herself with quiet composure.
Doug stayed by her side, quietly impressed by how well she handled herself in such a situation.
Years of loyal service to the Stewarts had exposed Doug to many women of wealth, but not one of them,in his mind, rivaled the quiet grace Amelia displayed.
Doug led Amelia to the garden, where Amelia spotted the elderly man seated in the pavilion from a distance.
Dressed in white, Conroy appeared almost plain at first glance, yet as Amelia drew closer, she felt a commanding force radiating from him.
"Mr.Stewart,Amelia is here," Doug announced before stepping aside.
Conroy's sharp gaze turned immediately to her, scanning Amelia from head to toe. His scrutiny was far more intense than Doug's, causing Amelia to feel a twinge of nervousness.
"Are you any good at making coffee?" he questioned.
Amelia's attention drifted to the polished stone table, where a coffee set had already been arranged.
Michelle had given her plenty of tips about brewing coffee. While she couldn't call herself a master, she was confident the coffee she made was better than most professionals'.
Amelia flashed a quick smile at him and answered,"I've learned it before."
Without offering any more words, Conroy simply motioned for her to sit across from him.
Once she had washed her hands, Amelia settled into the seat and started preparing the coffee.
Both Conroy and Doug watched her, quickly realizing she knew what she was doing.
The scent of freshly brewed coffee soon drifted through the pavilion. Amelia placed a cup of coffee in front of Conroy and said, "Please have a taste."
Conroy picked up the cup and tasted her coffee, his eyes instantly lighting up. However, remembering why he had called Amelia here,he put the cup down without a word.
"So? How is it?"she asked.
Though he wanted to brush off her efforts, Conroy had to admit the taste was impressive. He replied flatly, "It's alright."
With Conroy falling silent, Amelia chose not to add anything else.
A moment passed before Conroy broke the silence."I've looked into who you are. You are not good enough for Wyatt. Leave him immediately."
