Chapter 78

Hearing the word "cousin" left Amelia momentarily stunned. She straightened from Wyatt's arms, eyes instinctively tracking the figure coming their way.

Striding over, Jaycob Stewart cut an imposing figure in his jet-black leather jacket, radiating danger.

His steps aimed directly for the rear passenger door. The driver scrambled out, attempting to block his path, but before he could do that,Jaycob's sudden, piercing scream echoed.

Amelia caught sight of him crumpled on the ground, pain twisting his features.

She remembered how she had once slammed a car door on Jaxton-she hadn't even hit him with all her might, yet he had broken three ribs.

Wyatt's force just now was far greater than hers had been.

"Stay in the car," Wyatt said to Amelia, voice gentle as he got out of the car.

Jaycob was still on the floor, sweat soaking his brow. Still, he tried to haul himself upright when he spotted Wyatt leaving the vehicle.

Wyatt didn't let him recover. A swift kick caught Jaycob in the stomach, hurling him across the pavement. Blood spilled from his lips.

Witnessing the brutal scene, Amelia got out of the car and rushed over. She grabbed Wyatt's hand and said,"Don't do anything you'll regret!"

Wyatt's face was expressionless, but his eyes burned with killing intent.

Seeing that, Jaycob hesitated for a moment. He had provoked Wyatt many times before, but this was the first time Wyatt had reacted so strongly.

Could it be because this woman had been in the car earlier? That made things interesting.

When Amelia pulled him back,Wyatt stopped himself from going any further. He turned to the driver and ordered, "Call the police."

Jaycob, nearly losing consciousness from the pain, heard Wyatt's words and let out a sneer. "How dare you call the cops? You're the real murderer!"

Wyatt answered not with words, but with a slow, crushing step onto Jaycob's chest. Blood sprayed from Jaycob's mouth, darkening his collar in seconds.

Looking at Jaycob without a shred of pity,Wyatt spoke as if dismissing a nuisance. "People like you only know how to do dirty tricks."

Police sirens howled closer, prompting Amelia to move forward and pull gently at Wyatt's sleeve.Without hesitation, he removed his foot.

Davin arrived with the police and stayed behind to handle the matter, while Wyatt took Amelia to another car.

After about ten minutes, the car stopped in front of Harvest Moon Restaurant.

Sitting down in the private room, Wyatt seemed to have slipped right back into his usual, unreadable calm.

Amelia's gaze lingered on him, curiosity dancing in her eyes. In a steady voice, Wyatt broke the silence. "My uncle's hand was behind the brake failure on my car two years ago. After you rescued me, I retaliated in the same way against him. Only, his fate turned out far worse. He has been lying in a hospital bed ever since, and there's little hope he'll ever recover."

Wyatt's uncle, Hamlin Stewart, was spared from death, but he had become a complete vegetable and was unlikely to ever awaken.

Jaycob knew full well the wrongs his father had done to Wyatt, but blame and bitterness still ran deep.Wyatt's life went on, while Hamlin was trapped in a hospital bed, which made Jaycob resent Wyatt

Although Wyatt spoke as if relaying nothing more than the weather,Amelia felt for him.

She set her fork down and said, "Haven't your father or grandfather ever stepped in?"

A chill slipped into Wyatt's expression at the mention of his father.

Through Wyatt's account, Amelia learned of the sordid details within the Stewart family.

Jewell Stewart, Wyatt's father, chased pleasure and luxury on the Stewart fortune, shunning any burden of responsibility. Forced to wed Della and father Wyatt,Jewell soon drifted away, building another family with a different woman, Kamila Wallace.

So,Wyatt grew up knowing he had two half-siblings -children Jewell shared with Kamila.

"So why does everyone in Kretol think you're the only child?" Amelia asked.

Had Wyatt not trusted her with these secrets, she never would have guessed Jewell had two illegitimate children.

Wyatt noticed her confusion, and a shadow flickered across his expression. "My grandfather forbade them from carrying the Stewart name. That's why."

Those two had their mother's last name-Rory Wallace and Pattie Wallace.

For a moment, Amelia almost praised Wyatt's grandfather for showing some sense. But Wyatt continued, "Even though they're not allowed to have the Stewart surname, my grandfather didn't refuse them to become part of the family."
