Chapter 66
Wyatt's words left Elena feeling complicated emotions-shock mixed with a stab of envy twisting inside her.
Once the resort project broke ground, the Stewart Group was set to pour in hundreds of millions, if not more.
And yet, Wyatt tossed out the idea of using it as"practice" for Amelia, as if money and risk were just afterthoughts. What had Amelia done to earn that kind of treatment?
Choosing to ignore the subtle hint from her own assistant, Elena focused her glare on Amelia, storm clouds brewing in her eyes. She was about to say something when Amelia extended a document toward her.
A scowl darkened Elena's features as she glanced at it. "What's this supposed to be?"
"Weren't you concerned about whether I could handle a project of this scale, Miss Green?" Amelia said, her tone even. "Here's the proposal I put together for the resort project. Feel free to have a look."
Instead of reviewing the document, Elena handed the document off to her assistant with a careless flick, refusing to so much as skim Amelia's work.
Wyatt's expression cooled at Elena's dismissiveness, but the quiet admiration in his eyes grew as he watched Amelia's unwavering confidence.
She really was something special.
Meanwhile, the assistant-who'd been appointed by Jeffery's parents to keep an eye on things-started flipping through the proposal. The more he read, the more his skepticism faded. He couldn't deny how thoroughly prepared and professional the proposal was.
Leaning in, he tried to share his findings with Elena, telling her the proposal was good, but she retorted,"You must be kidding. There's no way she put together anything worth reading-"
The words caught in her throat the moment her eyes landled on the contents of the proposal. The Green family placed great importance on training her in business, so Elena could recognize a good proposal when she saw one.
The only time she'd encountered a report of this caliber was in the company's main boardroom; it had been put together by senior executives with years in the game.
How on earth could someone so new to the business world, like Amelia, produce work of this caliber?
Without hesitation, Elena's mind snapped to the conclusion that the proposal wasn't Amelia's work.
Picking up on Elena's skepticism, Amelia met her gaze with a taunt. "Miss Green, just because you can't do something doesn't mean others can't."
Not stopping there, Amelia dove into the core concepts behind her proposal, expanding on each point with clarity and offering several strategic suggestions. Once she'd finished, she turned the tables with a string of questions about the resort's development, none of which Elena could answer.
Amelia turned to Wyatt and deliberately said,"Mr. Stewart, can you confirm that I'm in complete charge of the resort project?"
"Everything related to the project is yours to handle," Wyatt replied.
"Then my first order of business is a request-she needs to be replaced," Amelia said, gesturing toward Elena.
Red-faced and trembling with fury, Elena exclaimed, "This is my family's land! What right do you have to replace me?"
"The land belongs to your family, not to you personally!" A voice echoed just as Elena finished speaking.
Jordy appeared, striding toward the group with determination.
News had reached him that Kevin and Carlotta had handed the project to Elena, prompting him to head straight to the construction site.
Without wasting time, Jordy addressed Elena directly, saying,"I'm stepping in to oversee the resort project. You can go home now." "Why? How is that fair?" Elena snapped.
Jordy didn't bother arguing with her; he simply nodded to the nearby assistant and bodyguard. "Take her home.Now."
Within minutes, Elena was ushered into a waiting car and whisked away. Once she was gone, Jordy turned to Amelia with a friendly smile. "I'll be overseeing the resort project from here on out. Are you alright with that,Amelia?"
After touring the site and collecting data, Amelia realized this project had real potential.
Determined to keep things professional, she decided to forget about what had happened with Elena. She offered Jordy her hand, signaling her willingness to collaborate.
Prepared for the occasion, Jordy had even brought the contract.
He passed the document to Wyatt, who promptly handed it to Amelia with a reassuring nod. "As I promised, you're in charge."
His trust made Amelia laugh softly. "You're not worried I'll blow the whole thing?"
Wyatt only shrugged, his confidence unwavering.few hundred million is nothing. I can handle the risk."
His laid-back attitude melted Amelia's worries. With a few confident strokes of her pen, she signed the contract and replied, "You can relax. I'll make sure this project is a win."
With business settled, Jordy suggested having dinner together, but Wyatt declined the offer.
Fresh news from Kretol had reached Wyatt-the Morrison family had clinched the east side development bid.
Without a second thought, Wyatt wanted to return to Kretol with Amelia that very night.
Amelia said nothing in front of Jordy. But as soon as she and Wyatt boarded the plane, she couldn't hold it in any longer. "Did the Morrison family really get the bid?" Wyatt's answer was measured. "The official results are supposed to be announced in two days."
"Then..."
Wyatt caught the confusion flickering across Amelia's face and slid a tablet her way.
On the screen, she found the bidding results and qualification files for the Eastside Project.
Her eyes quickly landed on the Morrison Group's name at the very top.
It wasn't surprising since they were the successful bidder. But the bid and materials from the Morrison Group looked strikingly familiar to her.
Something about this set off alarms in her mind. A quick scan jogged her memory; every detail matched a set of documents she'd saved on her own laptop just days earlier.
She remembered working late, archiving the proposal and supporting paperwork herself.
Suddenly, a chill ran down her spine. Panic crept into her voice as she turned to Wyatt. "I never gave any of my work to the Morrison family. I swear, I didn't..."
