Chapter 38
Monroe had come here to deliver something to Amelia. Wyatt's words caused the box in Monroe's hand to fall to the ground with a thud.
Gemstones and jewelry-once owned by Janessa-scattered in every direction, but shock kept Monroe rooted to the spot.
For a moment, he stared at Wyatt. Instinctively, his hand reached toward Amelia; he wanted to tug at her and ask her if Wyatt's words were true, but before he could touch her, Wyatt stopped him.
He then saw Wyatt's cold, intense stare.
Wyatt's glare alone seemed to warn him that touching Amelia would have consequences, and Monroe quickly snatched his hand back. Still desperate for answers, he asked, "Mr. Stewart, what do you mean by that?"
Amelia had planned to tell Monroe about Wyatt later, but the current situation forced her to explain things to him now.
In the past couple of years, Monroe had stepped into his family's business and witnessed firsthand the ugly side of the wealthy. After he listened to Amelia's explanation, a deep crease formed between his brows.
But he didn't say anything, simply gathering up the scattered jewelry and offering it to Amelia before leaving.
Looking at the items in her hands with a hint of disdain, Wyatt asked, "What are these?"
"These are what my stepmother sold off," Amelia replied.
After hearing this, Wyatt asked, "Should I help the Flynn Group find new business deals? Or do you want me to invest in shares under your name?" For a brief moment, surprise flickered across Amelia's face before she burst out laughing.
With a smile, she shared the story behind the jewelry, explaining the situation. Wyatt really hadn't expected that the Flynn family had been treating her so poorly.
After hearing everything, Wyatt said, "If you want,Amelia, I can make the Flynn family disappear from Kretol overnight."
Amelia looked at his earnest expression. There had been moments she had wanted revenge, but thinking of her mother, she gave up on the idea.
Not noticing that Wyatt had changed how he addressed her, she gently replied, "Let me handle things with the Flynn family myself. Still, I really appreciate what you're willing to do, Mr. Stewart, but this is something I have to do on my own-"
"Amelia, don't you think it's about time you changed the way you address me? We are, after all, about to get married soon," Wyatt interjected. Though he typically paid little mind to how people addressed him, something about Monroe's easy manner with Amelia had struck a nerve and made him want to say this.
Amelia, unaware of Wyatt's thoughts, agreed that their relationship warranted a change in how she addressed him.
She looked at him and asked, "Would you like me to call you Wyatt from now on?"
When Amelia said his first name, an unfamiliar sensation stirred inside Wyatt, and he quickly gave his approval.
After Wyatt's car pulled away, Amelia stepped inside her apartment, the box of jewelry clutched securely in her hand.
Setting her priorities straight, she decided to first put away the brooch Wyatt had given her.
Fully aware of what it meant, she knew she couldn't just give it back, but she also knew/it deserved better treatment than the rest of her jewelry. So, she carefully locked it away in her safe.
Wyatt, meanwhile, left in high spirits in his car, a hint of a smile on his lips, until he noticed the vehicle parked down the street.
Spotting Wyatt's car, Monroe wasted no time and stepped out of his own car.
Wyatt motioned for his driver to stop, then got out of the car to walk over to Monroe.
Neither man spoke right away. The silence between them stretched as they sized each other up.
Eventually, Monroe couldn't keep silent. "Mr. Stewart whatever your reason is for marrying Amelia, if you ever cause her pain, I won't let you off!"
His long friendship with Amelia meant he wouldn't just stand by if anyone hurt her.
Even facing someone as influential as Wyatt, he resolved to look out for Amelia, remembering all the kindness Amelia's mother had shown him before. He knew his bold words might not sit well with Wyatt, but his eyes held steady, unflinching.
"No one's ever had the nerve to threaten me before. You realize a single word from me could ruin your entire family, right?" Wyatt said.
