Chapter 81
Amelia didn't answer Wyatt, choosing instead to face Santos. She said, "I'm the one who wants to call off my engagement to Jaxton."
Wyatt's influence could push the Morrison family into agreeing, but they would never forgive him for it.
Amelia had no intention of letting Wyatt shoulder that kind of blame.
Standing nearby, Jaxton rushed over, his voice loud with anger. "You've been seeing all sorts of men behind my back. How dare you even talk about ending our engagement, Amelia? You are so-"
"Watch your mouth!"
Amelia struck Jaxton across the face before he could finish speaking, disgust twisting her features. "Not everyone is as shameless as you."
Without waiting for his reply, she reached into her bag and pulled out a brown envelope.
Back when Wyatt handed her those photos, her first instinct had been to throw them away. But she had forgotten to do that, and now, they came in handy. Pulling the photos from the envelope, Amelia tossed them at Jaxton. "Before you go accusing me,maybe you should take a look at your own actions."
Photographs landed all over Jaxton, some sliding across the table, others hitting the carpet.
When his eyes caught sight of the images, Jaxton's face twisted with shock. "How did you get these photos?"
A sudden realization flashed across his face. Fury burned in his eyes as he asked, "Amelia, did you send someone to follow me? How could you-"
Another sharp slap rang out across the office, slicing through the tense air.
With disappointment etched into his face, Santos had slapped Jaxton hard after seeing the photos. He looked disappointed, his voice weary. "I know you don't have any skills in business, but I never imagined you'd be someone who would stoop so low."
With Santos' harsh words hanging in the air, Jaxton kept his head down. Resentment simmered in his eyes, but he didn't dare say anything. He kept sneaking glances at the office door.
Once he finished reprimanding Jaxton, Santos turned to Amelia. His expression was a mix of guilt and sorrow. "It's the Morrison family who has wronged you."
"Please don't say that, Santos," Amelia quickly said.
Even though the Morrisons had plotted against her,she knew Santos' care for her was real.
Seeing her attitude to him unchanged, Santos managed a faint smile. But the smile faded almost instantly when his gaze shifted to Wyatt.
Wyatt already had the documents ready-a contract and an agreement ending the engagement.
Staring at the paperwork on the table, Santos kept quiet for a few seconds. Then, turning to Amelia, he said, "Jaxton is not the right match for you. If this is what you want, I will honor your decision and agree-"
"I don't agree!"
Before Santos could finish speaking, Laura charged into Wyatt's office, Ricky right behind her.
As soon as Jaxton's message reached Laura, she wasted no time in calling Ricky.
The security personnel from the Stewart Group had followed them here, afraid they would cause a scene. They left after Davin waved them away.
Flames of anger danced in Laura's eyes as she stared at Amelia. "This engagement isn't just about you and Jaxton, Amelia. Our families' partnership is at stake. How can you only think about yourself?"
Displeasure already simmering after signing a share transfer the previous day, Ricky now shot a cold glance at Amelia. "What are you trying to pull? Do you want to ruin the Flynn family's reputation-"
"Having Amelia break off the engagement with the Morrison family was my condition. Does anyone have a problem with that?" Wyatt suddenly said.
That put an end to Ricky's tirade. He clamped his mouth shut imnmediately.
An uneasy glimmer flashed in Laura's eyes. She wouldn't dare challenge Wyatt, so her tone softened as she addressed Amelia, saying, "After your mother was gone, I raised you as if you were my own. Isn't it cruel of you to end things with Jaxton like this? Even if you won't consider my feelings, you should at least think about what this means for our families?"
Tired of Laura's manipulations, Amelia turned to look at her with a mocking gaze. "Are you truly worried about the two families, or are you just thinking of that sixty percent stake?"
Laura's composure crumbled beneath Amelia's words. Her face twisted with anger. "After everything I've done, this is how you think of me?"
The accusation in Laura's voice rang out, but no one in the room missed the unease in her tone.
Mention of the sixty percent stake drew Ricky's suspicion. He shot Laura a confused glance, but before he could speak, Santos' phone began to ring.
Every head turned in his direction.
Clayton's anxious voice soon came through the line."Mr. Morrison, someone's suddenly buying our stock, and our stock price is falling fast-"
Hearing this, Santos immediately turned to look at Wyatt.
On the sofa,Wyatt sat poised and unbothered, though his words were colder than his calm appearance suggested.
Locking eyes with Santos, he said, "Mr. Morrison, my patience is running thin. You have one minute to decide."
A heavy silence fell after he finished speaking.
Watching the Morrison Group's shares tumble, Jaxton, filled with resentment, could only pick up the pen Davin handed him. He moved to sign the contract cancellation agreement, but Davin reached out to stop him, pushing over the engagement annulment agreement instead. "Start with this one."
Once the signatures were on both documents, Jaxton tossed the pen aside, seething. He was almost about to leave when a voice called him back. "Hold on a second."
