Chapter 23
All across the Stewart Group's headquarters, bright lights chased away the darkness of the night
With purposeful strides, Davin entered the CEO's office, a bundle of photos in hand.
Wyatt, lost in whatever glowed on his monitor, kept typing on his keyboard with a steady rhythm. Only when Davin drew near did he finally pause.
"These photos just came in, Mr. Stewart. You'll want to see them," Davin said, holding out the photos.
Wyatt reached for the photos, but Marc beat him to it, snatching the stack with a swift movement.
Situated at the very center of Kretol, the Stewart Group's building was not far from the Kretol City Hospital.Marc frequently dropped by Wyatt's office. And, he was standing beside Wyatt's desk now.
As Marc thumbed through the photos, showing Jaxton tangled up in bed with Layla, he couldn't hide his disdain.Without a second thought, he tossed them onto Wyatt's desk. "Your love rival's taste in women is bizarre, choosing to overlook someone as beautiful as Amelia for someone so unremarkable."
Wyatt's eyes skimmed the photos, his expression cold and dismissive. "He doesn't deserve Amelia."
The look on Wyatt's face drew a chuckle from Marc. "Jaxton doesn't deserve Amelia. You're the only one who is worthy of her, right?"
Those words prompted Wyatt to turn and pin Marc with a look. "Since you have so much free time, focus on that research project instead. One hundred million dollars is on the line, and if you can't deliver results, the funding stops there."
"Alright, alright. I came here to visit you out of goodwill, but if you're going to chase me off, then I'll leave,"Marc grumbled, sensing Wyatt's patience wearing thin.
Reaching the door, Marc paused with his hand on the knob, then turned around. "Actually, I almost forgot. There's something you might want to know. It's about Amelia." Wyatt's curiosity flickered, and he gestured for Marc to continue.
Grinning, Marc delivered the news with relish. "The entire Flynn family landed in the hospital today, and their injuries aren't minor. Don't worry, Amelia's fine. In fact, rumor is she's the reason Ricky and Dayna got hurt. She went all out; Dayna's wrist is seriously injured."
"Nobody gets to mess with my woman," Wyatt said.
Marc burst out laughing while Wyatt, usually so composed, seemed to turn into a lovesick man right before his eyes.
Once Marc had left, Wyatt turned and fixed his gaze on Davin. "Look into the situation about the Flynn family for me."
With a firm nod, Davin glanced at the scattered photos. "Should we keep tracking Jaxton's movements?"
"Yeah. Keep an eye on him. What's the status on our project in the eastern district of Kretol?"
Davin had just put away the photos when Wyatt's question prompted him to report on the progress of the project.
After that, Davin added softly, "At most, we'll be ready to open bidding on the east side in a week. I wouldn't be surprised if the Morrisons catch wind soon."
Wyatt's mind raced with possibilities the second Davin finished his report.
Moving to the window, he took in the bright city lights and weighed his next steps. When he finally spoke, his instructions were firm. "Put everything else on the back burner. The east side project comes first."
That decision caught Davin off guard. It hit him just how much Amelia truly meant to Wyatt.
Every move, from the ongoing surveillance of Jaxton to fast-tracking the project, was because of Amelia.
At first, Wyatt had mapped out a month-long plan.
In that scenario, Amelia would have been free from her engagement to Jaxton in a month.
But Marc's update had changed everything. Wyatt felt an urgent impatience settle in.
What the Flynns had put Amelia through was unforgivable. Waiting another month was out of the question.
Wyatt believed he needed to let Amelia cancel her engagement to Jaxton as soon as possible.
