Chapter 34

When Wyatt reached out to.shake Amelia's hand, a spark lit up in her eyes. She caught hold of his hand and, with a teasing wink, said, "Thank you, Mr.Stewart, for believing in me. I promise to give my best and never let you down."

Driving Amelia back to her apartment, Wyatt reminded her to visit the Stewart Group within three days for onboarding and confirmed their dinner plans with Della.

Wyatt's show of encouragement chased away every dark thought in Amelia's mind that was caused by Laura.

Bursting with excitement, Amelia hurried to tell her grandmother the good news. However, on the way to the hospital, she received a call from Laura.

Laura's voice sounded warm, mentioning how they hadn't seen each other lately. She invited Amelia to join her for dinner tonight.

Thinking back on Laura's past tricks made Amelia pause, but she chose to accept the invitation, out of respect for what they'd once shared.

During their call, Laura slyly brought up the auction, pretending to worry about Amelia while actually criticizing her.

Whatever joy Amelia felt evaporated after the call. Not wanting her grandmother to see her upset, she only called her grandmother, giving up on the idea of visiting.

After the call, she fired off a quick message to.Wyatt, asking whether he could share some security footage from Pearl Bay Auction House with her.

Several minutes ticked by with no response, leaving Amelia to wonder if she had crossed a line by asking Wyatt for that.

Right as she was about to send another message to him,Wyatt's name flashed on her screen-a video call request.

On her screen, she noticed his background-a sleek conference room. He seemed to be in a meeting.

"I'm in the middle of something here, so I can't talk long. Davin will contact you. Just let him know what you need, and he'll take care of it," Wyatt said.

Understanding he was busy, Amelia hurried to apologize, her face showing genuine regret as she reached to end the call.

But Wyatt's expression softened as he said, "It makes me happy that you'd reach out to me first when you needed help."

His words made Amelia's face flush. She ended the call in a hurry. After a while, her phone rang with Davin's call.

After a brief explanation to Davin, the video footage she needed was sent to her.

With the footage of Jaxton and Dayna at the auction in hand, Amelia headed straight for the Morrison family's residence.

Inside the Morrison family's home.

Dayna's words had twisted Jaxton's thinking, convincing him that Amelia had set him up during the auction. A heavy resentment for her took root in his heart.

With his eyes scanning the dining table filled with delicious dishes, Jaxton's face was dark, not a trace of warmth in his demeanor.

Spotting Jaxton's sour mood and worryingit might sour the evening's plans, Laura took a moment to clarify why she had really asked Amelia over for dinner.

Given her understanding of Amelia, Laura was confident Amelia wouldn't cross any boundaries, so she wasn't concerned about Amelia's interactions with the man she was supposedly involved with.

Back in the day, Laura herself had forged connections for the sake of the Morrison family's business.

Her intention in inviting Amelia today was to leverage Amelia's connection with the mysterious man, as anyone who could access the second floor of Pearl Bay Auction House was of significant status.

Understanding exactly what his mother was plotting,Jaxton fumed on the inside but bit his tongue. He knew arguing with Laura was a lost cause.

The moment Amelia stepped through the front door,Laura greeted her with a warmth that seemed almost rehearsed, guiding her straight to the dining room.

"Amelia, I asked the chef to make some of your favorite dishes. Please tell me if there's anything else you're craving. I'll have it made right away," Laura said.

For the first time in two years, Amelia saw several dishes she genuinely liked set out before her in the Morrison family's house, which made her confused. This was odd.

Not quite able to read Laura's intentions, Amelia quietly took her seat, deciding to wait and see what would happen next.

Sure enough, as soon as Amelia picked up her fork,Laura said, "Amelia, I already scolded Jaxton. I instructed him clearly to take you to the Pearl Bay Auction House, but | didn't expect him not to follow my order. But Jaxton mentioned seeing you with someone else there. Why didn't you say something about that to me before?"

Amelia knew that if Laura had truly wanted her to attend with Jaxton, she could have called her to inform her of it before. She saw through Laura and Jaxton's little performance, finding the whole act faintly amusing, though she kept her expression perfectly composed.
