Chapter 50
Amelia guided her car through the city streets, heading straight for the Stewart Group.
The clock had just struck eight forty as she entered the office, spotting only Sally at her desk.
Sally had arrived early specifically to wait for Amelia, but upon seeing Amelia appear as composed as ever as she took a seat, a flicker of panic crossed Sally's eyes.
Then,Amelia reached into her bag and withdrew a familiar document-the same contract Sally had handed her the day before.
Remembering shehad deliberately given Amelia the wrong meeting time, Sally said in a smug tone, "Patton didn't sign the contract, did he? You-"
Before she could finish, she froze as Amelia flipped openthe contract, displaying the signed page to her.Sally's face changed as she stared at Amelia. "How... How did you get Patton to agree to sign?"
Frantically, Sally snatched up the contract, hoping to find evidence of a forgery. But the company's seal stared back at her, genuine and undeniable.
Sally's changing expressions made Amelia's satisfaction grow. Her effort yesterday had paid off.
She let out a gentle laugh, watching Sally's distress. "Now that's funny,Sally. Wasn't it you who told me to close this deal? I thought you'd be happy. Why do you look so upset that I succeeded?"
Compared to Amelia's restraint yesterday, she appeared very assertive today.
Sally's face soured as she replied, "I have no clue what you're getting at. The contract was practically done before you got involved. Patton would have signed no matter who brought him the contract. Don't be too proud of yourself."
Amelia's gaze sharpened at Sally's words.
She had initially intended to give Sally another chance, but Sally's attitude changed her mind. A knowing smirk curved at Amelia's lips. "You really think nobody's going to find out what you tried to pull,Sally?"
"What are you even taIking about? I didn't do anything."
"Oh, really? You said the meeting time was at three when it was actually at two. What were you trying to achieve by doing that? What if I hadn't gotten the contract signed? Would you have taken responsibility for it?"
Brushing off the accusation, Sally stubbornly responded, "You're twisting things. I told you the meeting was at two in the afternoon. You misheard me."
Amelia's eyes turned cold after she heard that. "Everyone here heard what you said at that time. They can testify whether you intentionally/gave me the wrong time."
That accusation seemed to break Sally's facade. "Amelia, who do you think you are? You're new here.Whatever friends you've made, they wouldn't risk crossing me for your sake."
"Then you admit you set me up on purpose by telling me the wrong time?"
"Yes, I gave you the wrong meeting time on purpose. So what? Everyone has to put in the effort to earn a spot here. Why should you have the privilege to work here only because of your connections?"
"All this talk just shows you resent me for taking your place," Amelia said calmly.
When she had joined the company, she had curiously asked Davin why Wyatt didn't simply choose someone from the Administrative Services Department to be his secretary; after all, they were already trained.
Davin had answered by saying Wyatt had tried out everyone in the department for a whole week, but nobody had managed to impress him. Sally had been dismissed by him after seven days as his secretary.
Thus, Sally's animosity towards Amelia was not just about her getting her job using connections. She also resented Amelia for being Wyatt's secretary.
Amelia's words seemed to strike a nerve, exposing Sally's hidden insecurities.
Suddenly, Sally snapped, "You really did steal what should have been mine! What makes you think you deserve to be Mr. Stewart's secretary? What can you do that | can't?|-"
Before Sally could finish, the door suddenly swung open.
Wyatt and Davin stood in the doorway, joined by the other assistants, their eyes fixed on the unfolding scene.
When Sally saw Wyatt, her face went pale. Still, she managed a strained smile.A. Stewart, what brings you here today?"
"If I hadn't come here, I wouldn't have seen your true colorsWyatt said.
The words landed like a slap. Sally's bravado vanished, and she slumped in her chair. Still, she scrambled for an excuse, "Mr. Stewart, you shouldn't believe Amelia. I haven't done anything-"
"Yes, I gave you the wrong meeting time on purpose. So what? Everyone has to put in the effort to earn a spot here. Why should you have the privilege to work here only because of your connections?"
Without warning, Amelia pressed play on her phone. Sally's admission rang through the office, every word clear and undeniable.
Trying to get up, Sally's strength gave out, and she dropped onto the floor. She clawed her way over to Wyatt, reaching out in desperation, but he kicked her aside.
