Chapter 63
Without a second thought, Amelia bent down to pick up the little wooden rabbit. "I bought this at a stall and thought you might likeit," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
While she spoke, her eyes darted everywhere but at Wyatt. For a moment, she didn't know where to look.
Wyatt reached over and took the gift from her hand, his words gentle. "Thank you.I really like it."
The little rabbit reminded him of Amelia. That was the reason he had glanced at it several times before.
He never dreamed she'd notice his interest and buy it for him, and now, a spark of happiness filled his heart.
After passing the rabbit to Wyatt, Amelia made a move to leave. But before she could do that, he stepped aside and swung the door open wider. "Come inside. Sit with me for a while."
He was already moving inside the room before she could think of a reason to refuse.
Reluctantly, she trailed after him, eyes falling on his tall frame as he walked ahead.
No sooner had she sat down on the sofa than Wyatt poured a glass of mango juice for her.
The room still held traces of steam from his recent shower, and the air felt heavy, thick with warmth. Amelia felt that her breathing had grown shallow.
She accepted the glass from him, took a generous gulp, and let the cool juice chase away some of her unease.
Wyatt noticed her discomfort and said, "You've been on your feet all day. You must be exhausted. Maybe I should let you goback to rest now."
Hearing this, Amelia quickly set the bottle down and stood up, ready to leave.
Wyatt also rose to see her off. They both took a step in the same direction, bumping into each other, Amelia stumbled back, thrown off balance. Quick reflexes kicked in, and Wyatt's hand shot out, catching her as both of them landed in the armchair together.
Something landed on her lips, and Amella's eyes flew open wide in surprise.
Never had she been so close to Wyatt before. She could see her own surprised face reflected in his dark eyes.
With a sudden burst of panic, she tried to push him away, but he caught her hand before she could break free.
The sweet mango scent filled the air, and the unique fragrance of Amelia kept flooding into Wyatt's senses, quickly dissolving his self-control.
He kept a gentle but firm hold on her hand, unable to stop himself from deepening the kiss, drawn in by everything about her.
Wyatt's excitemnent sparked when Amelia didn't resist him. He wrapped his arms around her even tighter.
Amelia's mind went blank, and she felt dizzy.
This was her first kiss!
Back in college, she had never gone as far as holding hands with any boy. After graduation, she became engaged to Jaxton.
Even during harmonious times with Jaxton, they only held hands, rarely hugged, let alone kissed.
Wyatt found himself wanting to get closer to Amelia. His gaze, deep and intense, gave away the desire he could not hide.
When Amelia caught the look in his eyes, her heart started racing.
She didn't have any real experience with intimacy, but she understood what he was thinking right now.
Right when her panic reached its peak, a knock came from the other side of the door. She'd never been so thankful for an interruption like this. She wriggled free from Wyatt's hold and dashed from the room, leaving her slippers behind without a second thought.
"Mr. Stewart... I... Did I come at a bad time?"
At the doorway, Davin hesitated, eyeing Amelia's rushed escape and Wyatt's disheveled robe. His throat went dry as he tried to process the scene.
Why did he have to work so diligently? That report could have waited until morning.
"You can forget about your quarterly bonus. It's gone," Wyatt said coldly.
"Mr.Stewart,I-"
"One more word, and your next quarter's bonus disappears, too."
Davin clamped his mouth shut, closed the door for Wyatt, and quickly left.
