Chapter 70
The next morning, Amelia stepped into her office, barely having the chance to place her bag down before Wyatt summoned her to his office.
She walked into the office, half-expecting a conversation about the resort project. Instead, his words caught her off guard. "You can call the police now."
Blinking in confusion, she asked, "Weren't I supposed to wait for a few days?"
"You don't have to wait anymore," he said.
With a steady hand, Wyatt slid a contract toward her.
She reached for the document and opened it,discovering that it was the contract for the Eastside Project. She found Jaxton's signature and his official seal.
Even before this, Amelia had known Jaxton wasn't the sharpest in business. The Morrison Group stood strong because of Laura and her husband. Still, she hadn't realized he could be this reckless as to sign the contract so soon. It was common practice for companies to spend several days, sometimes longer, deliberating after winning a bid. Only after that would they sign contracts.
Yet Jaxton, in a rash move, had jumped at the chance to sign right after hearing the results of the bid-a risky decision by anyone's standards.
Since Jaxton's impatience had sealed the deal, there was nothing left to hold her back.
With Wyatt watching,Amelia dialed the police without a moment's hesitation.
The police, upon hearing that the Stewart Group was involved, promised to handle the matter immediately.
Once the call ended, Amelia turned to leave, but she paused when she caught an uncertain look on Wyatt's face.
She thought for a moment before asking, "Is there something else on your mind?"
Wyatt picked up a folder full of photographs, handed it to her, then touched his nose and cleared his throat."Go ahead and see for yourself."
Every photo showed Jaxton in the company of a different woman. Flipping through the photos, Amelia said, "You don't need to worry about my history with him. Just do what you need to do. No need to hold back."
Wyatt exhaled quietly, relieved by her calm expression.
He knew how deeply Amelia had once cared for Jaxton. Part of him had feared she might soften toward Jaxton.
At the Flynn family's estate.
Dayna had spent the previous day tending to Jaxton at the hospital, leaving her completely worn out. When the police arrived at her home, she was still curled up in bed, sleeping.
A servant woke her, and she trudged downstairs, still wearing her pajamas, irritation written all over her face.
The two officers immediately attempted to take her away. Faced with the stern expressions of the police officers, Dayna quickly shouted, "What right do you have to arrest me?"
One officer explained in a measured tone that Amelia had filed the report, and that the entire matter involved the Stewart Group. Dayna's confidence wavered for a moment, though she kept shouting, "I've done nothing wrong!"
Amelia's phone would not stop ringing the whole morning. Call after call from the Flynn family came in,and she ignored every single one. She could easily guess why they were calling her.
However, she hadn't expected Ricky and Janessa to come directly to the Stewart Group's entrance to confront her.
Their hostile energy was palpable. Seeing that, Amnelia quickly said, "You're standing on Stewart Group property. If you plan to stir up trouble here, you'd better consider whether you can afford to offend the Stewart family."
Janessa, who was about to hit Amelia, clenched her teeth in frustration and withdrew her hand.
Inside a small café across the Stewart Group, the three people took their seats. Amelia asked, "Why did you come here?"
Ricky retorted, "Don't act clueless. You know exactly why we're here. How could you report your own sister to the police? What kind of person turns against their family like that?"
Amelia replied, "Surely you don't believe I would report Dayna without a valid reason, right?"
"It doesn't matter why you did it. Think about our family's name. If word gets out that the Flynn family's daughter was taken away by police, do you know how we'll be judged? Are you trying to embarrass the whole family?" Looking at the Stewart Group building through the window, Ricky tried hard to suppress his anger.
Seeing Ricky still concerned about the family's reputation at this moment, Amelia found it both ridiculous and pathetic.
She got straight to the point, saying, "Do you have any idea what Dayna stole from my computer?"
Without waiting for Ricky's response, Amelia continued, "She took confidential files of the Eastside Project. That's theft of trade secrets!"
The moment those words landed, Ricky's entire demeanor shifted. Amelia met his eyes with a mocking smile. "Honestly, I thought she'd pass those files to you. Never did I imagine she'd hand everything to the Morrison family instead."
Janessa rushed to defend Dayna, telling Ricky, "Honey, don't listen to her. She's twisting the facts."
Amelía said, "If you don't believe me, go ask Dayna at the police station. She did give the files to the Morrison family. Otherwise, how did the Morrison Group win the bid so easily?"
"Look at the mess your daughter has caused!" Ricky snapped at Janessa. Rising abruptly, he slapped her, then stormed out of the café.
