Chapter 82

Jaxton paused abruptly, his gaze blazing with barely restrained fury. He lashed out at Wyatt, "Mr. Stewart,I've already put my signature on those documents. What else do you want?"

"You're going to host a press conference using the Morrison Group's name. You'll publicly break off your engagement with Amelia and apologize to her openly.Admit to the media how wrong you've been. Jaxton,we both know it's the least you can do for her. Of course, you're welcome to decline, but don't be surprised when the Morrison Group vanishes overnight from Kretol if you do that," Wyatt said calmly.

Jaxton's fury could not be contained after he heard that. His fingers curled with rage as he glared at Wyatt lounging on the sofa. He struggled to steady his breath. "Mr. Stewart, don't you think what you are asking is a bit too much?"

"So what if it is?" Wyatt said. "Just remember, I want this to happen today. If you let me down, I'll make sure my threat becomes reality."

Jaxton's body still ached with the pain of three cracked ribs, and rage stabbed through his chest so sharply that it drained the color from his face.

Though his disappointment toward Jaxton gnawed at him, Santos still defended him, saying to Wyatt, "Mr.Stewart, there's wisdom in leaving the past behind.You-"

"When Amelia suffered at the hands of your family you didn't do anything. So now, you don't have the right to ask me to change my mind. Mr. Morrison, instead of wasting time talking, you might want to get ready for the press conference," Wyatt said.

As soon as Wyatt locked eyes with Davin, Davin understood him and moved forward. "Mr. Morrison, allow me to show you out," he said, motioning toward the door.

Once the Morrisons had disappeared from view,Wyatt fixed Ricky with a steady stare. "Mr. Flynn, is there anything you want to say about all this?"

Instead of answering right away, Ricky mulled over Wyatt's motives for standing up for Amelia. His first guess was that Wyatt was simply smitten with her because of her beauty.

In Kretol, almost no one from wealthy families could rival Amelia'slooks.

Ricky believed that Wyatt was not serious about Amelia and only wanted to play with her for a while. For a moment, he weighed the shame that might cling to the Flynn name if Amelia did this. Still,he believed being linked to Wyatt was not a bad thing for the family.

"No complaints from me," said Ricky in a flattering tone.

Suddenly aware of how sycophantic he sounded,Ricky coughed, then glanced at Amelia with a gentleness he'd never shown her before. "Since you've already made up your mind about this, I'll respect that decision as your father."

Watching Ricky put on an act like this, Amelia couldn't help but feel a wave of nausea. But with Wyatt standing right there, she swallowed her revulsion and said,"I have to get back to work. Please go."

Ricky didn't seem offended at all. Instead,he flashed a polite smile and promised not to bother her any further.

As soon as he stepped out, Amelia lost her composure. She rushed to the nearest trash bin and began retching.

Wyatt didn't hesitate when he noticed her distress. He moved in close, placed a gentle hand on her back, and offered her a glass of water. "Is something wrong? Do you want me to drive you to the hospital?" His concern was clear.

Amelia gulped the water down and managed to quell the nausea.

Instead of accepting his offer, she brushed it off with a wave of her hand. "No need for that. Really, I'm okay."

Catching the way his eyebrows drew together, she couldn't resist a bitter laugh. "I just feel sick seeing my father like that."

Amelia's fingers found the annulment papers on the table. A spark of happiness flickered in her eyes at the thought of finally breaking away from the Morrison family for good.

She was about to put the document into her bag, only to hear Wyatt's voice break through the silence."Amelia, what do you say to getting our marriage registered today?"

His cool voice carried a mysterious allure, causing Amelia to drop the document onto the carpet.

Amelia's wide eyes drifted to Wyatt, searching his face for any sign that he was joking.

No hint of teasing appeared in those dark eyes of his.Instead, she found unwavering seriousness, and her heart began to pound. "Didn't we decide to wait until May 5th? That's my birthday."

"I know, but your birthday is still five days away. I can't wait that long."

When he noticed that she had fallen silent, a flicker of disappointment crossed his face. "Unless you've changed your mind about getting married to me?"

Amelia opened her mouth, but before she could speak,Wyatt continued, "If you're having second thoughts,I understand. After all, the Morrison family is out of the picture now."

At that moment, Amelia suddenly felt like she was a heartless woman.

Wyatt's somber expression made her words tumble out. "No, I haven't changed my mind about that. It's just-"

"So you're saying yes?" Wyatt interjected.

The question left her speechless, completely caught off guard.

At that instant, Davin appeared at the office door.Wyatt instructed him, "Get everything ready. Amelia and I are going to get our marriage registered now."

Davin was shocked by the suddenness of the matter. Seeing Davin's hesitation, Wyatt fixed him with a pointed look. "Why are you still standing there? Hurry up!"
