Chapter 75
Back then, no matter how much Katrina disliked Dayna, she would never make things difficult for her since she was a child.
Because of that, when Dayna began to hover around Amelia on purpose, Katrina simply instructed someone to keep a watchful eye, choosing not to interfere directly.
With her trusting heart, Amelia welcomed Dayna's company without suspicion. Excitement bubbled over the moment she discovered they were sisters.
That naive joy vanished when Amelia barely avoided being struck by aspeeding truck. Only then did she glimpse the darkness lurking beneath Dayna's charm.
The image of that truck barreling straight at her remained seared in Amelia's mind. She could never forget the twisted satisfaction on Dayna's face after she shoved her into harm's way.
Only Katrina's careful planning had saved Amelia's life.A bodyguard positioned nearby, thanks to Katrina's intuition, had intervened just in time. After the incident, Amelia hurried to tell Ricky what had happened, but he brushed off her fears and accused her of making up stories until Katrina produced undeniable surveillance footage.
That was why Katrina had sent Dayna abroad.
"Letting Dayna get locked up will only disgrace the Flynn name. The company's standing will crumble, and you wouldn't want your mother's effort to be ruined, would you?" Ricky said.
No one understood her father's selfish motives better than Amelia. She also knew he grasped exactly what she cared about the most.
While Amelia felt nothing for the Flynn Group itself, she cared about Katrina. As she started the car, she changed her mind. "I'll drop the charges, but only on one condition."
"And what might that be?"
After Amelia found a parking spot to park the car and made her way into the company building, she saw that the elevator doors were closing. She darted forward, phone pressed to her ear.
Inside the elevator, Davin and Wyatt spotted Amelia.Davin's quick thinking had him reaching for the open button before the doors could shut completely. Catching sight of Amelia still speaking on the phone,Davin offered a friendly smile and moved aside, letting her in.
After greeting Davin and Wyatt, Amelia returned to her call. "If you're ready to transfer all your ten percent shnares to me, then I'll drop the charges."
The revelation piqued Wyatt's curiosity. Although he usually didn't eavesdrop, he found himself glancing over at Amelia, surprised by what he'd overheard.
On the other end of the line, Ricky's anger spilled out in a stream of curses.
Without a hint of worry, Amelia simply held thedevice away from her ear, letting him shout until he ran out of steam. She brought it back to her ear and replied with steady resolve, "That's my deal. Accept it, and I'll Let the lawsuit go. Refuse, and Dayna faces prison.Take your time-think it over."
Their negotiation dragged on, and eventually, Ricky's patience wore thin. In the end, both settled for five percent of the shares for Amelia to drop the lawsuit.
The realization that she had acquired five percent of the company for nothing thrilled Amelia. She would gain control of the Flynn Group sooner or later.
As the elevator doors parted, Wyatt gestured, and Amelia followed him into his office.
Curiosity got the better of him, and Wyatt asked about her call. Amelia summed up her talk with Ricky, adding that Ricky would be arriving around noon to sign the share transfer.
There was something she had forgotten, though. With Dayna having stolen the files from the Stewart Group, she should have consulted Wyatt beforehand.
"If I pull the lawsuit now, does it put your company at risk?" she asked.
After Wyatt reassured her that the company would remain unaffected, she felt relieved.
Wyatt, knowing she would be handling legal paperwork at noon, offered to connect her with a lawyer. Although she had planned to approach Dalia, she accepted Wyatt's offer without hesitation.
Right after Amelia agreed, Wyatt's gaze grew intent as he asked, "Amelia, do you still remember our deal?"
Right then, her mind flashed to his mention of the one -month timeline.
While adding up the days in her head, she realized that the end of the one-month period coincided with the fifth day of May-her birthday."Amelia, I'd like us to register our marriage on your birthday. Would that be alright?" Wyatt said.
Amelia's heart hammered in her chest. She meant to protest that things were moving too fast, but all she managed to say was, "Jaxton still hasn't agreed to end the engagement yet."
Wyatt's face changed instantly at the mention of that name. His expression turned cold. "Give it three days, and he'll be begging for you to break off the engagement."
