Chapter 93
"What nonsense are you talking about?" Amelia said.
Jaxton's proposal left Amelia questioning her own hearing, as though reality had taken a sudden turn for the absurd.
To Jaxton, the shock on Amelia's face looked suspiciously like hope, feeding his belief that she still had feelings for him.
Last night, he had already discussed marrying Amelia with Laura. After marriage, Laura would ask Amelia to stay at home, and he would manage her shares of the company.
His mouth opened to continue, but a sharp slap from Amelia stopped him cold. "If you're that crazy, book an appointment with a psychiatrist. Don't show up here just to disgust me. In case your memory's a bit blurry, let me jog it for you-we are finished. If you need proof, watch yesterday's press conference and listen to what you said after signing that agreement at the Stewart Group," she said.
Humiliation crashed over Jaxton all over again; he was a painful reminder of yesterday's events. Wyatt's support had made Amelia bold, or so Jaxton believed. He shot Amelia a stormy look, bitterness carved into every feature. "Amelia, you're nothing but Wyatt's favorite toy. He picks you up when he feels generous and tosses you aside whenever it suits him."
Amelia's face hardened in response. She had always suspected Jaxton was rotten at heart, but his shamelessness still left her stunned.
"You just can't stand the fact that I am with Wyatt now,who is leagues above you. That eats away at your pride. If I was dating an ordinary man, you wouldn't be this agitated, would you?"
Her retort struck deep, and Jaxton's anger flared instantly.
Ignoring Laura's advice for calm, he yelled at Amelia,"You're just as malicious as your mother was!"
"Get out right now!"
When Jaxton spat out that insult about Katrina,Amelia's eyes blazed with fury.
Watching her lose her composure, Jaxton found a twisted pleasure. "Look at you-so angry now. Did l finally hit a sore spot?"
Amelia refused to give him any more attention. Without a word, she grabbed her phone and dialed the police while he watched.
His mood soured as he realized what she was doing.
For Jaxton, another scandal was the last thing the Morrison Group could afford, and Amelia's call to the police was a direct shot at his already fragile reputation.
Just then, Jaxton moved without warning, ramming into her with such force that Amelia toppled over, landing hard on the carpet.
He wasted no time. Within a heartbeat, he straddled her, pressing her down. "Amelia,I should have known you had no shame. I should've claimed you two years ago, before Wyatt ever set his sights on you. Still,it's not too late to do that now."
Shock twisted her features. She slammed her fist into his stomach, trying to fight him.
The punch made him wince as pain shot through him,yet Jaxton refused to let her slip away. Instead,he held her wrists tightly.
Wearing only her pajamas, Amelia could barely defend herself, giving Jaxton an easy advantage.
Seeing Jaxton's wild stare, Amelia felt her heart hammer. She would rather die than sleep with Jaxton. Steadying her breath, she glared at him. "Jaxton, you know Wyatt is with me now. Lay a hand on me,and he'll crush everything you've built. Do you really want that?"
That threat made Jaxton pause, but just for a second. His lips twisted into a sneer. "You think you matter that much to him? Once I've had you, he'll drop you like garbage. You'll mnean nothing to him anymore."
Jaxton's twisted thinking left no room for reason. He believed that if he could not possess her, nobody else could. Blinded by this obsession, he yanked at her clothes, not caring about his own pain.
Amelia fought with everything she had, but his strength was so much stronger than hers. Her eyes darted around until she spotted a vase on the edge of the coffee table.
Acting on instinct, she snatched the vase and shattered it against Jaxton's skull.
The crash rang out, shards flying, and blood quickly streaked across his forehead. Instead of fainting,Jaxton only felt his fury intensify. He glared at her, eyes intense.
His palm lashed out, striking her face with a savage blow. He then tangled his fingers in her hair, forcing her cheek against the cold floor.
A wave of dizziness crashed over Amelia. She was trapped under his weight, powerless to escape, but her spirit burned with defiance. She refused to be touched by this jerk.
She didn't want Jaxton to get his way.
"Someone,please, help me..." she muttered.
Somewhere in the blur, she thought she heard a door creak open. Light spilled into the room...
