Chapter 77
Catching that glint in Ricky's eyes, Amelia instantly understood what was running through his mind. He never missed a chance to network with powerful people.
"Are you going to get this share agreement signed or what? My shift starts soon, and I don't have all day to hang around here with you," she said to Ricky.
Ricky had already prepared the contract and was tempted to toss it Amelia's way. However, in the presence of Lucian, he restrained his anger and handed it to her.
Amelia's thoughts went straight to the shares, blocking out everything else. Taking the contract, she turned to Lucian. "Would you mind reviewing this for me,Mr.Ford?"
While she could have managed a review herself, putting faith in a professional felt like the wiser route.Lucian, after all, had more experience.
Lucian read through the pages with painstaking care, turning each one methodically. When he finished,he returned the contract to Amelia and offered a nod."Everything checks out. You cansign it." Trusting Lucian's judgment didn't keep Amelia from feeling a twinge of doubt. Could Ricky really be letting go of the shares this easily?
Ricky's sour mood went unnoticed by her as she scribbled her name.
Ricky had actually prepared two different contracts-one as a trap if Amelia didn't catch the tricks, the other one without any issues.
Never in his wildest dreams had he expected Amelia to show up with a legal powerhouse like Lucian. So, he had had no choice but to hand her the one without issues.
Amelia tucked the signed contract away with a triumphant look, leaving Ricky simmering in frustration.
Before she could head for the door, Ricky called out,"Now that the share transfer is finished, drop the lawsuit immediately!"
Winning the contract left Amelia in high spirits. Still, she couldn't help but say in a mocking tone, "Your care for Dayna is impressive. Rest easy-she'll walk free before sunset."
For a moment,Amelia thought about calling Dalia to share the news, but she soon reconsidered, knowing all too well what Ricky was like. As Amelia and Lucian stepped out of the Morrison Group, a familiar vehicle rolled up and stopped before them.
"I thought you had a client to meet. What are you still doing here?" Amelia said when she saw Wyatt in the car.
Wyatt caught the joy in her eyes and replied with warmth, "It wrapped up sooner than expected."
The driver couldn't help but feel resigned at that, knowing the car hadn't even left the Flynn Group.Wyatt had only instructed him to drive over when he saw Amelia.
Amelia marveled at Wyatt's undeniable business savvy.Once in the car, she beamed at him and said, "I've signed the contract. Let's celebrate over lunch. It's on me!"
As soon as the words left her lips, she remembered Lucian was still here. She glanced out the window and asked, "Do you have time for lunch, Mr.Ford?" got other plans."
Lucian barely had time to speak before Wyatt cut him off with a quick response. A puzzled look crossed Lucian's face. He didn't have anything planned.
But then, catching the hint in Wyatt's sharp gaze,Lucian quickly said, "That's right. I do have something urgent to handle."
"I'll treat you to a meal another time, Mr. Ford,"Amelia said.
The moment she finished speaking, Wyatt rolled up the window and signaled for the driver to get moving.
"This all feels too easy. I didn't expect my father to hand over the shares so quickly..."
With the city rolling by outside, Amelia launched into her thoughts about the morning's events. Her voice, lively and bright, filled the car as Wyatt listened, his gaze gentle on her.
He was about to reply, but a sharp screech of tires shattered the moment.
Jolted by the sudden stop, Amelia was thrown forward in her seat.
She braced for pain but instead landed safely in a warm embrace.
Wyatt held her close and checked her over at once, his voice edged with worry. "Did you get hurt anywhere?"
He scanned her for scrapes or bruises and, seeing she was unharmed, turned to assess the situation.
Ahead, a black sports car sat crushed against the barrier nearby, its nose smashed like a kicked can.
Just before the impact, Amelia had caught a glimpse of the car swerving toward them with intent.
Had the driver not reacted as fast as he did, Wyatt's car would have crashed headfirst into the barrier.
"Mr. Stewart, let me take a look," the driver said, already reaching for the door handle.
That plan was cut short. The black car's engine suddenly roared back to life. It jerked into reverse, then shot forward, slamming toward their vehicle a second timne.
With barely any time to react, the driver froze as the oncoming car barreled toward them.
Again, Wyatt wrapped Amelia tightly in his arms, shielding her from the jolt.
Thanks to top-tier modifications, the car held up-only the front end was bent slightly, while everything else stayed intact. By contrast, smoke began to pour from the black sports car.
Amid the haze, a figure pushed open the battered door and strode toward them.
Recognition dawned on the driver's face as he said,"Mr. Stewart, it's your cousin!"
