Chapter 95

Wyatt's doubt made Marc let out a laugh tinged with annoyance.

He was an acclaimed doctor with a world-class reputation, yet here he was, getting second-guessed by his own friend. The whole exchange left him feeling humiliated.

With anyone else, Marc would have had no patience for such distrust. Security might have been called, but for Wyatt, he could only swallow his annoyance and say, "There's nothing more to check. If you're still not convinced, you're welcome to keep her here for observation.Professionally,though-"

"We'll stay for observation," Wyatt interjected, not giving Marc a chance to finish speaking.

Marc, ever the professional, hid his irritation at Wyatt's interruption behind an eye roll and got to work arranging Amelia's admission.

Once they reached the VIP ward on the top floor,Marc leaned closer and shot Wyatt a sly grin. "Just married, and you've already landed your bride in the hospital? That's one way to start the honeymoon!" Before the teasing could go any further, Marc caught the warning chill in Wyatt's glare. He straightened at once.

He quickly shifted gears. "Anyway, looks like I've got another patient waiting. I'll leave now."

He slipped away, not waiting for a reply, leaving Wyatt and Amelia alone in the room.

Wyatt wasted no time. He helped Amelia get settled on the bed, asking if she needed a drink or something to eat.

The care he showed her caught Amelia off guard. After a moment's pause, she murmured, "Wyatt, Dr.Chapman said I'm fine. I can handle things on my own.You don't have to stay here. Maybe you should head back to the company."

Having worked at Wyatt's side, Amelia was aware of how full his schedule always was. Watching him fuss over her filled her with guilt.

Wyatt noticed the look in her eyes and tilted his head."Is all this attention making you uneasy?"

She shook her head, hands waving in protest, and met his questioning gaze."It's not that. I just don't want to keep you from your work." Her words caught him off guard, but then, Wyatt let out a low chuckle. "There are tens of thousands of people working at the Stewart Group. If they really needed me for everything, I'd be running in circles. What would be the point of having all those employees then?"

Amelia couldn't hold back a laugh of her own at his words.

Seeing her finally relax, Wyatt added, "For the next few days, I'll stay by your side. Work can wait. You mean more to me than any work."

That gentle promise eased the knot of guilt inside her.

Having been tense all morning, Amelia finally relaxed and started feeling sleepy.

Wyatt caught her sleepy yawn and said, "Go ahead and get some rest if you're feeling tired."

"What about you?"

"Once you're asleep, I'll get some rest in the nearby room."

Sleep overtook Amelia soon. Wyatt waited for her breathing to steady before stepping out into the small living room. With his phone glowing in his hand,he quietly opened the suite door.

Waiting in the hallway, Davin was holding Wyatt's laptop, while the driver hauled in bags of essentials.

After unloading the supplies and departing, the driver left Davin to his report. "Every company you mentioned has been informed. The Morrison Group's stocks will begin tumbling in two hours."

"Keep an eye on things. I want the Morrison Group erased from Kretol within seventy-two hours."

A chill prickled Davin's skin at the command. He had expected Wyatt to teach the Morrisons a lesson, not ruin them entirely.

Still, he felt no sympathy, as Jaxton's actions had been out of line.

With business matters covered, Davin shifted his attention. He asked about Amelia. Once Wyatt assured him that she was safe, Davin let out a long breath of relief.

Amelia would recover, but others would not be as lucky.

Acting on Wyatt's orders, the bodyguards had dragged Jaxton straight to the front steps of the Morrison estate. The staff inside erupted in panic, scrambling for an ambulance and shouting for Laura.

When Laura and Santos finally rushed into the hospital, their eyes fell on Jaxton, battered and bloody. Laura nearly fainted at the sight. Relief only came once a doctor promised Jaxton's life was out of danger.

The worst had passed, but Jaxton was left with serious wounds. The ribs he had broken before were shattered again. A jagged piece of bone had torn into his lung Fresh wounds marked his head and chest. He looked beaten and frail.

Laura refused to leave her son's side, but Santos wasted no time. He dug into the backgrounds of the men who brought Jaxton in and discovered their connection to Wyatt. Anger boiling,he stormed into Jaxton's hospital room.

He fixed Laura with an accusing glare as she sat on the sofa."What have you done this time?"
